“What went wrong & what went right during the off-campus teaching”

            “The reward of a thing well done is to have done it” according to Ralph Wandol Emerson. Off- campus is really a hard challenged that every educators have to encounter. Challenged accepted! The word I have said before our off- campus teaching. We have given no choice to back out It’s a part of being a teacher, because the one who dares, win and now we’re done and here I am still kicking. We survive to that task; I proved that thinking positive at all time will bring us to a positive outcome.

                As I have heard to others teaching is not that easy, and that’s my insight before I enter to the real world of teaching. At first I find it difficult in the sense that I have to adjust in all aspects, the environment, and the people around us and of course, to be matured enough and to act as a role model to my students. What went wrong is that at the very beginning I have the difficulty to control my students, especially that I handled fourth year and grade 8. I really need to shout to get their attention and to listen of what I am discussing. Another problem during the off-campus is the lack of communication to our school, we always informed late and that’s another factor why we build some gaps because of blaming each other. At first our communication with my students is very limited, that’s why they misinterpret what I am saying. So I reach out to them by telling stories of mine, the things that I have experience and they find it interesting. That is also my way to keep in touch with them and by means of that I understand now why they behave in that why, some are because of their experiences in life, some based from the family they grown up, there are some factors to consider of affects their behavior. I’m friendly but I always told them that when I’m inside the classroom I’m their teacher. I really love my students for being open to me if they have problem they always approach me and ask some piece of advice. I am proud for having such an understanding, caring, intelligent, diligent, honest and talented students. They always call me “Ma’am bungisngis” for being a happy ST to them simple jokes makes me laugh and it’s my way to relieve my stress. I admit that practice teaching is hard and full of stress and come a point to give up but, with all the hardships lack of sleep, is worth it when the students really learned from what you have taught to see the good result and output to them.

                It is real that “experience is the best teacher” in the sense that we learn also to our students. I will never forget this experience; NPAMNHS will always be a part of my journey in life. It helps me to build my confidence and face the reality of our chosen profession.
